Careers

Join the Lehigh Valley Meats team and be part of family-grown, locally owned and operated business.

At Lehigh Valley Meats (LVM), we believe that hard work and integrity are the backbone of a strong local food system. As a small, USDA-inspected facility, we do more than just process livestock; we serve as the trusted bridge between the farm and the table. We take immense pride in providing responsible harvesting, superior meat cutting, and accurate custom packaging for the farmers who invest so much in their animals.

We are a close-knit team that values doing great work and treating every member like family. Here, you aren’t just an employee — you’re a craftsman and a vital part of a business that feels like home. If you are looking for a place where your effort is respected and your work supports your community, you’ll find it at LVM.

We operate through three core teams — Harvesting, Cutting, and Packaging — each playing a vital role in our mission to serve local farms with integrity.

Harvest Team Member

The Harvest Team Member ensures the highest standards of animal welfare and food safety. This role is built on teamwork, requiring someone who is hands-on, observant, and committed to a clean, safe, and respectful harvest process.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Animal Welfare: Safe, humane, and responsible animal handling and harvesting.
  • Sanitation: Maintain a pristine environment by cleaning and sanitizing equipment and workspaces.
  • Safety: Strict adherence to USDA guidelines and consistent use of PPE.
  • Flexibility: A “pitch-in” mindset to assist with various tasks across the facility as needed.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of USDA processing and safety protocols.
  • Problem Solving: The ability to evaluate situations quickly and find practical solutions.
  • Communication: Clear, positive verbal and written communication with the team.
  • Culture: A collaborative spirit focused on building a respectful and productive “home” environment.

Cut Team Member

The Cut Team Member is a skilled craftsman responsible for breaking down beef and pork carcasses into high-quality, package-ready components. This role requires sharp attention to detail, a focus on efficiency, and a commitment to honoring every custom order with precision.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Precision Cutting: Break down carcasses according to custom orders, ensuring consistent sizing and specialty cut accuracy.
  • Quality Control: Accurately label trim, separate components for sausage or patties, and provide feedback to ensure the highest product quality.
  • Tool & Workspace Care: Maintain clean, sharp knives and tools daily while keeping an organized, efficient workflow in the cut room.
  • Safety & Compliance: Strictly follow USDA trim protocols, food safety guidelines, and PPE requirements to ensure a safe, sanitary environment.
  • Collaborative Support: Assist with grinds, packaging/labeling, and general sanitation to keep the facility running smoothly.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of USDA processing, meat-cutting roles, and knife safety.
  • Detail Oriented: Ability to read and execute complex custom cut sheets without error.
  • Effective Communicator: Clear verbal and written communication to maintain flow and quality across the department and with the packaging team.
  • Team Mindset: A proactive problem-solver who contributes to a positive, productive, and respectful “home” environment.

Pack & Label Team Member

The Pack & Label Team Member is the final hand in our production process, ensuring every order is accurately finished, professionally presented, and safely delivered. This role requires high organizational skills, a sharp eye for detail, and a commitment to customer service, as you are responsible for the “final look” of the farmer’s hard work.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Precision Finishing: Vacuum seal, thermoform, and box cuts according to customer specs. Operate slicing and grinding equipment for chipsteak, bacon, sausage, and patties with consistency and care.
  • Value-Added Processing: Manage the sausage making process as well as smoking and curing process for hams and bacon, including rack setup and safe thawing protocols.
  • Accuracy & Labeling: Identify all meat cuts against cut sheets to ensure 100% accuracy. Maintain customer logos and pricing in the system, ensuring every package is a professional representation of LVM.
  • Inventory & Freezer Management: Organize the freezer and cooler to keep orders consolidated. Manage frozen pet food inventory, and retail stock to ensure a seamless “load out” experience for our customers.
  • Quality Control: Act as the final checkpoint by identifying inconsistencies in cuts or labels and communicating clearly with the Cut Team to resolve them.
  • Logistics & Retail: Assist with deliveries, hauling supplies, and keeping company vehicles clean. Provide friendly, professional service during customer pickups and in the retail area.

Requirements & Skills:

• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of USDA processing, food safety, and the “why” behind smoking and curing protocols.
• Organization: The ability to prioritize multiple tasks—from making boxes to managing smokehouse schedules—in a fast-paced environment.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to bridge the gap between the production floor and the final customer.
• Integrity & Initiative: A proactive “owner” mindset that takes pride in an organized workspace and a perfectly fulfilled order.

Work Environment:

Our facility is divided into four distinct climate zones: our room-temperature office and retail space, the variable-climate harvest floor, our refrigerated cutting and packing room, and our sub-zero freezers. Because the heart of our work happens in cold environments, team members must arrive prepared each day with the appropriate layers and gear to stay warm, comfortable, and productive.

Physical Demands:

This is an active, physically demanding role that keeps our team moving. Essential functions include the ability to stand and navigate hard flooring throughout the day, perform tasks involving repetitive motion with precision, and comfortably lift up to 75 lbs as needed. We look for team members who take pride in their physical stamina and attention to detail.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Our positions are full-time, hourly positions. Hours of work are typically 6:00 am -2:30 pm.

We value diversity and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
